Student Services

Student Support Services is an integral part of the total education program. Montague Area Public Schools offers several programs and support services for students with disabilities and strives to support the MAPS Mission to educate and inspire all students to become motivated, articulate, productive and successful citizens for today, tomorrow and forever.

The Northern Service Unit, a cooperative effort consisting of Montague, Reeths-Puffer, Holton and North Muskegon school districts, is a key player in the support we offer students.

Students are supported in a variety of ways (including school counselors, teacher consultants, resource rooms, special education classrooms, speech and language therapy, school social work, psychologists, occupational therapy, physical therapy and more). Assistance is also provided by the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD).

Itinerant staff from the Northern Service Unit and district staff conduct evaluations and analyze results to assist in identifying area(s) of need.  Itinerants also provide related services for students, as determined by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Itinerants partner and collaborate with staff who support students on a daily basis.
